I personally think people with clean shoes are often tedious and tasteless and afraid to come out of their own comfort zone. Where is the personal history beneath your feet? Where is the past that you so seemingly carry with you everywhere you go? I imagine you buying shoes and always running to someone and somewhere you love. I imagine you buying shoes and always running away from someone and somewhere that had wounded you. I imagine you buying shoes and taking your first jump shot. Your first date. Your first dance. Your first fight. Your first snow angel. Your first cigarette. It’s those little creases that let people know you are made of true grit. It’s those dirt brown stains on the left side of your shoe that give you character. You need to get your shoes dirty more often. Not many people admire that kind of thing anymore.
